Class Descriptions
MODERN/CONTEMPORARY
This class explores the core principles of space, time, and energy, emphasizing a qualitative approach to movement. Dancers will engage with a range of modern and contemporary techniques, focusing on weight, effort, spatial and physical awareness, and movement clarity. Classes include improvisation, phrase work, and opportunities for risk-taking and play.
FUNCTIONAL BALLET
This class blends classical and contemporary ballet techniques with conditioning tailored to the needs of dancers (1 hour ballet + 30 minutes conditioning). Emphasizing an anatomical approach, the focus is on achieving clear, efficient movement through proper bone alignment and functional muscle use. Dancers are encouraged to take artistic risks, explore personal movement quality, and think independently. The ballet curriculum draws from Vaganova, Cecchetti, and Balanchine techniques.
HOUSE
House is a form of street dance that focuses on footwork, groove, and a light torso. Dancers will explore the core grooves of house dance, finding your own personal rhythm within the movement.
YOGA FOR DANCERS
Yoga for dancers is a specialized practice combining strength, flexibility, and mindfulness to enhance technical performance, prevent injuries, and aid recovery and relaxation.
IMPROV JAM
This community-centered class begins with a guided improvisational warm-up before opening into a collaborative jam space. Dancers are invited to explore solo improvisation, contact improvisation, and the practice of witnessing within a supportive creative environment.
