It's back and here to stay! The Movement Project is proud to announce the return of Cleveland Dance Fest, a two-day dance festival November 10th & 11th at the beautiful Pilgrim Church in Tremont! The 2-day festival will feature master classes by CDF artists, 2 evening performances featuring Cleveland artists and an informal performance featuring emerging artists and works in progress.  DEADLINE EXTENDED: All applications are due July 24th by 9:00 pm!

CDF 2017 will be taking applications for performance pieces starting May 26th, 2017. CDF is open to professional artists (independent artists & dance companies) and emerging artists (college artists & works in progress).


Submission criteria

1. NE Ohio independent dance artists or dance company (artists who reside outside Ohio may apply, see below)

*CDF's mission is to provide support and a platform for artists who work, live or have a strong connection to Cleveland. This year we will be accepting applications for those who reside outside of northeast Ohio or the state, but do note that the majority of artists selected will be from the area.

2. All applicants, including casts, must be professional dancers. (Grad students welcome to apply)

*If you are a college dance student, please submit through the informal showing application for emerging artists below.

3. All applicants must adhere to the time limits below:

  • Large Group Pieces (5 or more dancers)
  • Length of work: Between 10-15 minutes (must not exceed 15 minutes)
  • Small Group Pieces (2-4 dancers)
  • Length of work: Between 10-15 minutes (must not exceed 15 minutes)
  • Solos (1 dancer)
  • Length of work: Between 8-10 minutes (must not exceed 10 minutes)

4. Rehearsal footage of new work is acceptable but only if the piece is complete. All works submitted must by completed at time of submission. Unfinished work will not be accepted.

5. Upon receiving your application, an invoice will be sent to each applicant with payment instructions. Applications will not be adjudicated until the $30.00 Application fee is paid, and all supplemental materials have been submitted. (Application fee is non refundable)

Note: Applicant's can submit up to two applications. A $30 application fee will apply to your first submission and a $15 application fee will apply to your second submission.

6. All selected artists will be required to sell an allotted amount of tickets to their performance (details will be outlined in contract).

7. The choreography or representative of the dance company applying must be available the following dates. (DATES ARE MANDATORY, NO EXCEPTION)

  • Sunday, August 6th 4:00 - 6:00 pm (Information & Contract Meeting)
  • Note: At this meeting, each artist will schedule a 15 minute phone call with TMP's resident lighting designer to communicate basic lighting needs.
  • Thursday, November 9th: Between 9:00 am - 7:00 pm (Tech Rehearsal - each artist will be given a 30 - 50 minute time slot)
  • Friday, November 10th or Saturday, November 11th (Applicants accepted may be asked to perform in both dates or 1, dependent on how many artists selected)

8. If you are interested in offering a master class at the festival, please indicate so and fill out the appropriate boxes in your application.

9. COMPENSATION:

$150 (Solos)

$300 (Small Group Piece - between 2-4 dancers)

$400 (Large Group Piece - 5 or more dancers)

10: TMP will provide the following resources and benefits:

  • performance stipend (see above)
  • professional video footage of your piece (digital copy)
  • marketing & promotional support
  • dressing room & warm-up space
  • marley stage floor, professional lighting, lighting designer & stage manager
  • free parking
  • full tech rehearsal
  • designated place to display your marketing material in the lobby
  • each participating artist will receive a discounted ticket to an upcoming TMP performance

Emerging Artists - Informal Showing

1. College artists & works in progress

2. All works submitted must not exceed 12 minutes

3. All applicants, including casts, must be 18 and older. (It is not required to be enrolled in a undergraduate dance program)

4. All applicants are required to submit a video of the proposed work. Rehearsal footage accepted. If you are submitting a work in progress, your piece should be at least 50% completed at the time of the submission.

5. Upon receiving your application, an invoice will be sent to each applicant with payment instructions. Applications will not be adjudicated until the $10.00 Application fee is paid, and all supplemental materials have been submitted. (Application fee is non refundable)

Note: Applicant's can submit up to two applications. A $10 application fee will apply to your first submission and a $5 application fee will apply to your second submission.

6. All selected artists will be encouraged to sell an allotted amount of tickets to their performance (details will be outlined in contract). This includes artists who reside outside of NE Ohio.

7. All selected artists will be required to participate in a conference call which will be scheduled at a later date.

8. The emerging artists informal showing will take place Saturday, November 4th from 4:00 - 5:30 pm.

9. TMP will provide the following resources and benefits:

  • professional video footage of your piece (digital copy)
  • marketing & promotional support
  • designated place to display your marketing material in the lobby
  • dressing room & warm-up space
  • marley stage floor, professional lighting (basic stage lights up and down)
  • free parking
  • panel of professional artists to provide feedback & discussion for your work
  • the opportunity to share work with an audience
